Nicky was born in Australia on September 25, 1965. Hall of Fame Australian rules footballer who is considered one of the greatest Indigenous players of all time, being named to the Indigenous Team of the Century and becoming the first Indigenous player to play 200 AFL matches.

He grew up in the town of Pingelly and played for his hometown club in the Upper Great Southern Football League. He debuted for South Fremantle in the WAFL in 1983, when he was 17 years old.

Did you know: A 1993 photograph of him responding to on-field racial vilification is one of the most famous images in the history of Australian sports. In 2009, the Nicky Winmar Cup, a tournament for young Indigenous footballers, was established in his honor.
